The emigration agents

Agents were sometimes actual emissaries of foreign companies or governments. Typical is the case of Brazil, which, in the last decades of the nineteenth century, increased immigration from Europe by offering free travel from the port of departure to the final destination in fazendas in which each emigrant family would also be granted a plot of arable land of its own.
